About a month ago I sat down with Edward Allen author Elvy Howard, in her lovely Virginia home, to talk about her new (debut) release, “Love on a Half Shell.”
“Love on a Half Shell” tells the story of thirty-something Rae Green (single, no children) who is called one night to take custody of her sister’s two daughters (12-year-old Torey and 5-year-old Melissa) because her sister has been thrown in jail. The story follows the challenges the three ladies face as they learn to form a family.
As Elvy and I chatted, we touched on the story’s history and how she incorporated bits of her real life (as a former counselor in the juvenile justice system) to craft the character of 12-year-old Torey. We talked briefly about what’s next on Elvy’s writing agenda too.
We’d just eaten a scrumptious lunch (courtesy of Elvy’s seriously impressive cooking skills!) that should have served as my dinner for the day, but it was the good conversation, more than the delicious food, that made the day so enjoyable for me. I hope you enjoy listening to our chat and learning about Elvy as much as I did talking with her!
